This morning I finsihed 1 of the most difficult sections in a game that I've seen in years. The ending of Sword of the Berserk Guts' Rage goes BOSS, Crash B style escape runner, BOSS, BOSS and if you run out of continues, you start back at that first boss.

BUT I FINISHED IT! This game is great and (I'm afraid to make this comparison) I feel would be liked by players of the Soulsbourne franchise. From the level design, the healing, items, dodging and sword combos, it feels like it could have been an early inspiration.

I did have 2 issues with it, 1st you save when you reach a new stage, but there are only 3 stages and they are at weird points. When I spent 8 continues killing this guy the waves of enemies that follow are frustrating because when I fell, I started back BEFORE this boss.

So if you beat Hyper Ballzack, get through the Evil Dead tree tunnel, you get to fight a giant mandrake baby! On my winning run, I made it to this chubby boy with 5 continues left. So seeing this huge cherrubish root vegetable was making me sweat. It took me 4 continues.

And then you find your love! And all is right (lol) with this terribly unjust and cruel word. JUST KIDDING, you get to fight ONE MORE BOSS. And he's got more heads than I had continues. Luckily, this was the easiest boss in the game and I didn't use my last continue!

It's a great game, 1 that a more skilled player could probably sit down and beat in ~3 hours. For me, what started out as a way to test my faulty Dreamcast turned into a memorable gaming experience, 1 that is going to have me looking into the developer, Yuke's Co, LTD, more.

Oh yeah, after the post-credits FMV, the game ended with a non-ironic 'FIN' and I just absolutely fucking loved that. More games should do this.
