There is a mechanic in Bayonetta called 'dodge offset' and about 1/2 way through my play through I started to understand what I was supposed to be doing. This was the moment I realized I was maybe doing it right. This is the best I've played.

I beat Bayonetta 1 on the switch (for the 1st time this year). This is my 20th Hack & Slash I've completed THIS year! I've played Bayonetta (1&2)) before and LOVE it! This time I was looking at the mechanics post DMC & trying to improve my skills beyond just button mashing!

My biggest takeaway from having had a wealth of new hack n slash systems under my belt is that Bayonetta takes those systems, rolls them into a bullet and fires them out of a shoe gun directly to your brain. The combat mechanics here are absolutely insane.

I've still been going back to it since I rolled credits, farming halos, buying/trying new gear. I do wish this game made it easier to access the challenges, but I suppose that's part of its difficulty. You have to find them in the moment.

Of course this game couldn't exist without two things that I've realized are staples of the genre:

1) at least one motorcycle level (there were 3)
2) a giant multi headed deity that you need to kill as the final boss, preferably outside the confines of space and time
