I'm about 1 hour in, just beat the 1st boss, which used the 3D REAL well. They hop from foreground to background after they summon pawns to fight, the 3D back & forth does a lot to expand the mood & depth of the world. REALLY enjoying it! A great way to kick off spooky season!!

The combat is super duper tight, all combo based, (X) is for a more focused whip attack, going after one enemy, (Y) is for a broader attack, doing more damage to enemies in your general area. You have a block/parry option with (L) and a dodge/roll with (L)+dir.

I took this with me as I travelled to see my parents. Trip was great! But I'm here to talk about Mirror of Fate. It's a good Hack & Slash & a good Castlevania for someone who isn't particularly skilled at either.

There are lots of good combos & moves to unlock, 1 gripe is because the focus on exploration, it lacked large enemy waves. I would like the bigger areas to be filled with enemies, but could be tough when it came time to backtrack. It’s a hard balance. DMC did this well.

The better combat mechanics were centered around doing a perfect block but enemies have unblockable attacks they use a lot. So you have to dodge & hope they attack normal, if not you spam & move along. It would help if you could block ALL if done perfectly adding a risk v reward.

That aside its a good hack & slash on the 3DS. I decided to go for 100% completion to see the secret ending, since I was still on the plane back. This is a recommend if you have a 3DS, & want more Castlevania, or maybe just need to hack/slash some knock-off DMC enemies.
